Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has resurfaced after being reported missing on Saturday.
According to his family, Tuju disappeared alongside his driver while en route to a radio interview. His vehicle was later found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Kare
Appearing at his home on Monday, the former CS explained that he had deliberately gone into hiding after noticing suspicious individuals trailing him. He said he had alerted police about a Land Cruiser without a license plate that was following him.
Tuju recounted how he managed to evade the suspected pursuers, saying he turned onto Nandi Road, forcing them to take a longer route, which allowed him to lose them. He later abandoned his vehicle and went into hiding.
He also revealed that a family in Kiambu sheltered him near the boundary with his residence area until late Sunday night, when he safely returned home.
At his residence, Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Party, raised concerns about the existence of an alleged “abduction squad,” suggesting Tuju’s fears may have been justified.
Following the initial reports of his disappearance, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched investigations. However, the agency later expressed frustration after being denied access to Tuju’s home on Mwitu Drive, calling for full cooperation to ensure a thorough probe.
Tuju is also currently involved in an ongoing legal dispute over the ownership of Dari Business Park in Karen. The case centers on an alleged failure to repay a KSh 1.9 billion loan borrowed in 2015 from the East African Development Bank, with the amount having grown due to accrued interest.
The contested properties include Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary, Tamarind Karen, and Dari Business Park.
On March 19, Tuju wrote to Douglas Kanja, the Inspector General of Police, protesting what he termed as an unlawful police occupation of Dari Business Park. He alleged that more than 100 officers raided the premises on March 13 without a court order and had remained there for nearly a week.
