Veteran Kikuyu gospel singer Gachathi Wa Thuo has appealed to Kenyans for financial support after his car was auctioned to settle a bank loan, leaving his home and an acre of land at risk of being sold

The singer’s troubles began after he dedicated his life to Christ and shifted from performing club-oriented Mugithi music. According to Karangu Muraya, who shared Gachathi’s story, stopping club performances significantly reduced his income, making it difficult to repay the KSh 3 million loan

“His personal car was repossessed and auctioned to pay off the loan, and now he risks losing land valued at over KSh 20 million for a debt of just KSh 3 million,” Muraya said

Social media users praised the initiative, with John Kim commenting, “God’s deeds are marvellous. Thank you to those who stood in the gap on behalf of our brother,” while Lydia Njenga said, “At least he can feel the love we have for him while he is alive”

This fundraiser echoes previous efforts by Kenyans to support struggling artists, including Emmanuel Kibet, popularly known as Fake Tizian, who received KSh 919,000 to care for his siblings after losing both parents

Gachathi Wa Thuo’s plea underscores the challenges faced by faith-based artists and the power of community support in times of need
