Detectives Launch Probe into Killing of 12-Year-Old Girl Found Dumped in Embakasi

Detectives in Embakasi, in collaboration with the Nairobi Area Crime Unit, have begun an intensive investigation into the brutal murder of a 12-year-old Grade 7 pupil whose body was discovered on Saturday morning in KAA Estate—two days after she was reported missing.

The victim, identified as Patience Mumbe, was found with her hands tied behind her back using a black shoelace. Investigators say the body showed signs of assault, including bleeding on her face and private parts, suggesting she had been subjected to a violent attack.

On Sunday, officers revisited the scene to conduct a detailed search for additional evidence that may help uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Patience’s family told Citizen Digital that they learned of the tragic discovery through a Facebook post shared by residents. Her father, George Manthi, said the family had been combing the Pipeline Amazon area since Thursday evening, when the girl went missing while playing with her siblings.

Her mother reported the disappearance at Kware Police Station, prompting a search effort that continued throughout the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, her mother came across a Facebook post announcing that a child’s body had been found in the Embakasi area—about one kilometre from Embakasi Police Station. The family rushed to the station, where they identified the clothes before later confirming the body at the Nairobi Funeral Home.

A postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, detectives are reviewing vehicle movements, communication records, and CCTV footage from around the neighbourhood as they pursue leads in the search for the perpetrator(s).
