Engineer Arrested for Forging Transport Ministry Contract Extension Letter

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Richard Kirui Bongei  a Principal Engineer at the Ministry of Housing was apprehended after the Transport Ministry reported the alleged forgery

Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit have arrested a senior government engineer accused of forging an official letter from the State Department of Transport.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Richard Kirui Bongei  a Principal Engineer at the Ministry of Housing was apprehended after the Transport Ministry reported the alleged forgery

Bongei is accused of falsifying a letter titled “Renewal of Local Agreement Terms” that purported to grant Capt

Martyne Luther Lunani a three-year extension as Director of Aircraft Accident Investigation at the Ministry of Roads and Transport

The DCI said the letter, dated May 6, 2024, bore the signature of a senior government official and was flagged as suspicious by internal verification systems within the Transport Department

“Document forensic examination experts established that the letter was indeed a forged document and confiscated it as evidence

Forensic trails subsequently linked the document to Richard Bongei, leading to his arrest,” the DCI stated

Further investigations are underway as the suspect remains in custody pending formal charges
