Kenya to Host World U21 Taekwondo Championship with 17 Countries Confirmed

Kenya’s 16-player team has intensified its preparations at the Kenya Academy of Sports under residential training, according to Coach Joseph Mwanda

Kenya is set to host the World U21 Taekwondo Championship for the first time, with 17 countries, including South Korea, Iran, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda, Ivory Coast, and Eswatini, confirming participation. The event will take place from December 3rd to 8th, 2025

Martin Marava, Technical Manager of the Taekwondo Federation of Kenya, said international athletes are expected to arrive in the country from the end of this month

“Before coming here, we were conducting non-residential training at Blue Phoenix. Now, with the residential camp, we thank the government because we have enough time to polish the team,” Mwanda said

Guided by experienced coaches like Stacy Gatiiyu, the Kenyan squad is aiming for a strong medal haul. “We started a little late, but the team is catching up well. We are sharpening all techniques, hoping to become the best team in the world,” said Gatiiyu

Coach Kalele Kahindi added, “The players are progressing rapidly in their techniques, and we believe they will achieve great results for the nation”

The championship will run under the theme “Taekwondo Values for Climate Action”, emphasizing the sport’s role in promoting global awareness alongside international competition
