The Kerugoya High Court has once again extended conservatory orders suspending the privatisation of Mwea Rice Mills (MRM), pending the hearing and determination of cases filed by two Mwea rice farmers
Judge Edward Muriithi extended the order on November 10, 2025, after directing the petitioners to physically serve the Attorney General (AG), Mwea Rice Growers Cooperative Society Ltd (MRGM), and MRM

The court scheduled the hearing for December 3, 2025, after the AG failed to appear. “There was no one from the Attorney General, so the hearing has been set for 3rd December 2025. Costs will await the outcome of the petition,” Judge Muriithi stated

Farmers Pius Njogu and John Munene approached the court after President William Ruto signed the Privatisation Act 2025 on October 15, which proposed the privatisation of MRM and other institutions
