Ruto Hands Over Keys to 176 New Homeowners as Machakos Boma Yangu Estate Opens

President William Ruto has officially handed over keys to 176 new homeowners in Machakos, marking the completion of the Machakos Boma Yangu Estate under the Affordable Housing Programme

During the Friday ceremony, President Ruto praised the project as a model for social integration, noting that the estate accommodates Kenyans from different income levels to promote inclusive communities

Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome highlighted the estate’s strategic location near key institutions, including Machakos University, KMTC Machakos Campus, Machakos High School, Machakos Level 5 Hospital, and the county market

She added that the construction phase provided more than 450 jobs for local youth and artisans, with 39 artisans certified under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme

Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to the government. Beneard Nzau, a retired civil servant, described the programme as a “game changer,” while 26-year-old Faith Mueni Kioko, a person living with disability, said receiving her studio apartment felt like a “God-sent gift”

Affordable Housing Board Acting CEO Sheila Waweru urged more Kenyans to register and save on the Boma Yangu platform, stating that Phase I includes 220 housing units studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments

President Ruto also presided over the groundbreaking of Phase II, which will add 570 units and offer daily employment to more than 500 workers

The upcoming phase will feature a clubhouse with a swimming pool, an ECD school, a shopping mall, and other essential amenities
