The Magistrate’s Court in Vihiga County has sentenced Bishop John Mweresi, head of the African Israel Nineveh Church, to nine months in prison after finding him guilty of land fraud

The court gave him the option to pay a Ksh. 280,000 fine Ksh. 70,000 for each count or serve the nine-month sentence, with the terms running concurrently
The cleric, who remained composed as the verdict was delivered, had spent three weeks in remand after his bail was revoked due to concerns he might flee

The courtroom was packed with members of his church, many of whom have closely followed the seven-year-long case that has faced numerous adjournments and witness withdrawals
The court advised Mweresi that he has 14 days to file an appeal if he wishes to challenge the ruling
