A nine-year-old girl has died and her 13-year-old brother is receiving treatment at Longisa County Referral Hospital in Bomet County after they were allegedly assaulted by their mother for stealing bananas from a neighbor’s garden
According to a police report, the suspect, 34-year-old Joan Chepkemoi Rono of Taboino village in Konoin, is said to have beaten her children using a wooden rod after accusing them of sneaking into a neighbor’s farm to steal pieces of banana fruit

She reportedly had visible swelling on her face and was bleeding from the mouth, while her brother suffered multiple wounds across his body
Police officers later arrested the mother, who was still at the hospital, as investigations continue into the shocking case of domestic violence
