Grim Discovery in Kirinyaga as Missing Man’s Body Is Found in Quarry

Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations after the body of a 33-year-old man who had been reported missing was discovered in an abandoned quarry in Mwea East Sub-County.

Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations after the body of a 33-year-old man who had been reported missing was discovered in an abandoned quarry in Mwea East Sub-County.

The deceased, identified as Isaac Gicobi, had reportedly been missing since Saturday night before his body was found on Tuesday afternoon in a water-filled pit in Murinduko Ward.

The quarry is located about three kilometres from Gicobi’s home and roughly two kilometres from Mumbu village along the Piai-Ngariama tarmac road.

The discovery was made after children who were fishing in a nearby swamp noticed a foul smell coming from the water. Their discovery prompted residents to raise the alarm.

Gicobi’s family said they had been searching for him since his disappearance and were devastated to learn that his body had been found in the abandoned quarry.

His brother, John Muthike, alleged that the body had visible injuries, including serious wounds to the head. He further claimed that Gicobi’s eyes appeared to have been injured.

The family suspects that Gicobi may have been killed at another location before his body was taken to the quarry, although police have yet to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Residents of Mumbu and Rogoi villages expressed shock over the incident, saying they had participated in the search for Gicobi after he went missing.

Gicobi worked as a casual labourer and also picked miraa, according to his colleagues Simon Ndwiga and Bundi Waweru.

Officers from Itangi Police Station recovered the body from the quarry and transferred it to a mortuary.

Detectives are now working to establish what happened to Gicobi, including the cause of death, where he may have been killed and how his body ended up in the abandoned quarry.

The investigation is ongoing as residents and the family await answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.
