Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, Gachagua urged residents to remain united politically and warned them against joining parties he claimed were being established to weaken the region’s electoral influence.
The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader asked his supporters to rally behind his party, which he described as the political vehicle through which the region could pursue its interests.
Gachagua alleged that the emergence of multiple political formations in Mt Kenya was part of a strategy to divide voters and weaken the region’s bargaining power in the next election.
“Gachagua also warned against the use of goons in political campaigns, saying aspirants who rely on violent groups would face consequences regardless of their level of popularity.”
His remarks come as political activity intensifies across the country, with various parties and leaders positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Mt Kenya region is expected to remain a key political battleground, with competing political camps seeking to secure its support.
Gachagua’s latest claims add to his growing criticism of the Ruto administration and come amid a series of public engagements through which he has been mobilising support for DCP.
The former Deputy President has repeatedly called for political unity in the region, arguing that a divided vote could reduce Mt Kenya’s influence in national politics.
President Ruto and his administration have not, in the cited report, responded directly to Gachagua’s latest allegation that parties are being created specifically to divide the Mt Kenya vote.
