Evans Kidero Acquitted in Ksh.213 Million Corruption Case

Kidero was charged alongside former Nairobi County officials Lilian Wanjiru Ndegwa, Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba, and Gregory Mwakanongo, facing multiple counts including abuse of office, dealing with suspect property, and conspiracy to commit a corruption-related offence

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been acquitted in a Ksh.213 million graft case, marking a major legal victory after years of proceedings

In its ruling, the court declared:

“Count 1–17: all are acquitted under Section 210. Count 18–35: accused person placed on their defense”

Kidero was charged alongside former Nairobi County officials Lilian Wanjiru Ndegwa, Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba, and Gregory Mwakanongo, facing multiple counts including abuse of office, dealing with suspect property, and conspiracy to commit a corruption-related offence

According to the charge sheet, Kidero allegedly received Ksh.14 million on August 29, 2014, and another Ksh.10 million on September 11, 2014, from Lodwar Wholesalers Limited while serving as governor. The prosecution claimed he knew the money was obtained through corrupt means

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had accused Kidero and his co-accused of mismanaging county funds and benefiting from irregular payments during his tenure

With this acquittal, Kidero’s long-running corruption case takes a decisive turn, though some charges remain under review as the defense prepares its response for counts 18–35
