Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos Lead as IEBC Registers Over 90,000 New Voters Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that 90,020 Kenyans have registered as new voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise that began on September 29, 2025

According to the IEBC report, Nairobi County leads with 16,512 new registrations, followed by Kiambu with 9,917 and Machakos with 4,026

As of October 31, a total of 15,619 voters had transferred their registration to new polling stations, while 188 updates were recorded

“The Commission notes steady progress as more citizens take advantage of this opportunity to register as new voters, transfer their registration to preferred polling stations, or update their details where necessary,” the IEBC stated

In voter transfers, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kiambu counties top the list, recording 5,388, 1,791, and 1,766 changes respectively

Counties with the lowest registration numbers include Tana River (130), Marsabit (284), and Isiolo (312). Notably, Tana River, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, and Nandi counties reported zero voter transfers

The IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that every eligible Kenyan participates in shaping the nation’s democratic future

The CVR exercise is part of the preparations for the 2027 General Elections, targeting 6.3 million new voters who have recently turned 18

Meanwhile, the Elections Observation Group (ELOG) has raised concerns over the use of iris scan data collected during registration

While acknowledging its potential to enhance voter verification, ELOG called on the IEBC to clarify how the biometric data will be stored and protected to safeguard public privacy
