At least 270,000 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have qualified for direct entry to university after attaining a mean grade of C+ and above

The number represents 27 per cent of the total 993,000 candidates who registered for the national examination

According to the President, the results reflect a strong performance, noting that half of the candidates who sat the examination were girls
He added that 1,932 candidates scored grade A, marking the highest-performing group in the 2025 KCSE examinations
“We are impressed that out of the 993,000 candidates, 50 per cent of whom were girls, 270,000 attained C+ and above, securing direct entry to university,” President Ruto said in a statement shared on X
Following the briefing, the Ministry of Education is expected to officially release the examination results later today
The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 21 and November 21, 2025, with oral and practical assessments administered before the written theory papers
The Education Ministry also reported a decline in examination malpractices, with 418 candidates involved in irregularities, down from 614 cases recorded during the 2024 examinations
