Two Officers Arrested for Consuming Chang’aa with Detainees at Police Station in kisii

A dramatic scene unfolded in Kisii County as two police officers risked losing their jobs following their arrest for allegedly engaging in a drinking spree with detainees.

Constable Erick Mogoi and Constable Francis Ngugi, stationed at Rioma Police Station, reportedly provided the detainees with the illicit brew ‘chang’aa’ on Thursday night.

Confirming the incident, Kisii County Commissioner Patrick Mukuria stated that the duo, who were on duty at the time, brought the illegal alcohol to the station and shared it with the detainees.

“Investigations have revealed that two officers serving at the police station were on official duty and decided to treat the detainees to the illegal brew,”

The detainees involved were identified as Mathew Omanga and David Mboga, who are facing murder charges and were being held pending the completion of investigations.

Senior officers were alerted to the situation by noises and singing emanating from the station. Upon arrival, they discovered the two officers and the suspects intoxicated.

“The two officers were found heavily intoxicated, singing liberation songs, while the detainees were in a similar state, entertaining themselves in their cells,” Mukuria explained.

A subsequent investigation by senior detectives uncovered an empty container believed to have been used to transport the alcohol.

The officers and detainees were then moved to Kisii Police Station for alcoblow tests, which yielded positive results. The test outcomes were retained as evidence, and the two officers were detained as investigations continue.

Authorities are yet to determine whether the detainees requested the illegal drink or if the officers willingly provided it to them.
