Suspected Sugar Smuggler Granted Bail in Isiolo Court

An Isiolo court has released a suspected sugar smuggler on a Ksh.100,000 bond after he pleaded not guilty.

who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Edward Tsimonjero, denied the charges against him.

Guyo was intercepted by a multiagency team while transporting 160 bags of smuggled sugar in Garba Tula, Isiolo County.

The sugar, bearing the SAHA brand, was found in a lorry and a private Land Rover, with a duty value of Ksh.560,000. The case is scheduled for mention on November 22 this year.

Guyo’s arraignment coincides with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) arresting and charging over 35 suspects involved in illicit sugar trade, preventing a tax loss of more than Ksh.20 million.

The State agency asserts its commitment to employing effective techniques for intelligence surveillance, investigations, and prosecution of unscrupulous sugar traders.
