Kenya Airways Honors Raila Odinga with Touching Onboard Tribute.
Kenya Airways has released the audio recording of a moving onboard tribute dedicated to the late Raila Amolo Odinga, delivered during flight KQ203, which transported his body from India to Nairobi on Thursday, October 16.
In a symbolic gesture of respect, the aircraft was temporarily renamed RAO001, referencing Raila’s initials and his remarkable contribution to Kenya’s political and historical journey.
The tribute, narrated by Captain Saviemaria Ondego, highlighted how the former Prime Minister’s influence transcended Kenya’s borders, inspiring generations across Africa.
“Today, we acknowledge a significant loss felt across Kenya and Africa,” the captain’s voice began. “Raila Odinga was a visionary leader, a Pan-Africanist, and a tireless advocate for peace and progress. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive toward a prosperous and united Africa.”
Kenya Airways noted that Raila had been a strong supporter of the national carrier, often championing its role in connecting Kenya to the rest of the continent and promoting economic growth through aviation.
The airline also extended its heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the Odinga family, and the Kenyan people, honoring Raila’s enduring legacy as “a leader who will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
Raila Odinga, 80, passed away in Kochi, India, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. His body was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday morning ahead of a State funeral service at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, attended by top government officials and international dignitaries.
On Saturday, his body was flown to Kisumu for public viewing at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, before his final journey to Bondo, Siaya County, where he will be laid to rest on Sunday in a private family ceremony.
