Four Impostors Posing as Social Health Authority Officials Arrested for Defrauding Man of Ksh.251,000

The suspects  Peter Muriithi, Catherine Kinyua, Lilian Njeri, and Samuel Mbuthia  were apprehended in Marimanti following a complaint from a victim who believed he was registering for a genuine SHA membership

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects accused of swindling a man out of Ksh.251,000 while pretending to be officials from the Social Health Authority (SHA)

The suspects  Peter Muriithi, Catherine Kinyua, Lilian Njeri, and Samuel Mbuthia  were apprehended in Marimanti following a complaint from a victim who believed he was registering for a genuine SHA membership

Alarmed, the victim contacted his Sacco, only to discover that Ksh.251,000 had been siphoned from his account and transferred to mobile numbers linked to the suspects

“In a swift operation, law enforcement officers from Marimanti tracked and arrested the four suspects,” said the DCI in a statement

A subsequent search led to the recovery of SHA-branded T-shirts, name tags, membership cards, information leaflets, and multiple SIM cards

Police also impounded a Toyota Prado (registration number KDP 267C) suspected to have been used in the scam, as well as another number plate (KDS 399C) believed to be fraudulent

The suspects are currently being detained at Marimanti Police Station as investigations continue to identify other possible victims and accomplices

“Investigations are ongoing to unearth the full extent of the suspects’ operations,” the DCI added
