Deputy President Gachagua Set to Unveil ‘Significant’ Initiative Against Illicit Alcohol Trade

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is slated to announce today a series of new strategies aimed at combating the sale and consumption of illicit alcohol across the nation.

DP Gachagua will deliver details of these “far-reaching” measures during a press briefing scheduled for 10 am at his official residence in Karen.

Gachagua has been at the forefront of a determined campaign against substance abuse, particularly the distribution of illicit brews in the Mt. Kenya region, where numerous lives have been lost.

In a recent directive, he mandated the prohibition of National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) and police officers from owning bars.

During an illicit alcohol and drug eradication conference held in Mombasa last week, Gachagua expressed disappointment with leaders in the Coast region for their perceived inaction on the issue. He contrasted their approach with that of leaders from the Rift Valley region, who he praised for their vigilance in addressing the menace.

He instructed security forces in the area to apprehend and prosecute drug kingpins within a two-week timeframe
